This vital work is possible because of our partnership with Mirror of Hope, a charity set up in response to help children and families living in the Kibera slum through their educational and commercial empowerment programmes.
The Mirror of Hope works tirelessly to improve lives in Kibera slum, the largest slum in Africa. Secret Safari is so proud to partner with them.
For most people living in Kibera, travelling for leisure or taking a holiday is not something that could ever be contemplated.
Mirror of Hope’s top priority is education, having seen first hand the impact that it has on the lives of the most needy children, and their families, in Kibera.
Mirror of Hope’s Female Empowerment programme promotes female entrepreneurship amongst those that need it most. From providing teenage mothers with ground nut, to teaching women to use sewing machines, all so that they may start their own businesses to support them and their families.
Mirror of Hope, with Secret Safari’s support, provides sanitary items to keep young girls in school, unembarrassed and uninterrupted.
Mirror of Hope believes in the long term gains that they bring to their community. During school holidays, and for 6 months after they finish their school education, all MOH sponsored children go out into the community to help those less fortunate.

Find out moreIt’s believed that Kibera is the biggest slum in Africa. While people from Kibera live in unspeakable poverty, they have an unwavering sense of community and care for others. But they need our help. Alongside desperate healthcare, housing, and sanitation challenges, the families in Kibera need education and employment opportunities in order to solve issues longer term.
That’s where Mirror of Hope steps in. They fund children’s education through their scholarship programme, as well as providing Kibera residents with the means to start their own businesses so that they can go on to support themselves and their families.
For example, in addition to funding children’s education, Mirror of Hope has its Women Empowerment Programme, promoting entrepreneurship among the economically vulnerable women of Kibera and providing them with the means to start their own businesses.
They, and we, firmly believe not in short term fixes but in long term ones, exemplified by the proverb “Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime”
