It’s believed that Kibera is the biggest slum in Africa. While people from Kibera live in unspeakable poverty, they have an unwavering sense of community and care for others. But they need our help. Alongside desperate healthcare, housing, and sanitation challenges, the families in Kibera need education and employment opportunities in order to solve issues longer term.
That’s where Mirror of Hope steps in. They fund children’s education through their scholarship programme, as well as providing Kibera residents with the means to start their own businesses so that they can go on to support themselves and their families.
For example, in addition to funding children’s education, Mirror of Hope has its Women Empowerment Programme, promoting entrepreneurship among the economically vulnerable women of Kibera and providing them with the means to start their own businesses.
They, and we, firmly believe not in short term fixes but in long term ones, exemplified by the proverb “Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime”
Secret Safari’s pledge to support Mirror of Hope with care packages containing either food or sanitary items is a small way of showing our solidarity with this incredible and inspiring community.
We hope that you choose to book with Secret Safari and support Mirror of Hope with a donation on your behalf. But we also urge you to consider supporting this vital work with a direct donation. Please visit https://mirrorofhopecbo.org/ to find out more.
