This area sits approximately 215km north west of Nairobi at an altitude of approximately 6000ft. It formerly consisted of community and ranch land and has since been turned into a patchwork of private game reserves, with vast ranches where cattle and wildlife live alongside each other. This is prime Big Five territory at the base of snow-capped Mount Kenya. It is also home to many indigenous communities including the Laikipia Maasai and Samburu.

Activities include horse-riding, bush walks, bush meals, mountain biking, fishing to name a few. All with a backdrop of the majestic Mount Kenya, Africa’s second largest mountain.

This is one of the fastest growing regions in Kenya as a result of sound economic policies and the confidence in tourism opportunities, industry and agriculture.
Laikipia is a plateau district, straddling the equator north west of Mount Kenya. The plains stretch from the Rift Valley to magnificent escarpments, which drop to the Northern Frontier District. Nanyuki is the main town of the Laikipia region, and there are two rivers, the Ewaso Nyiro and Ewaso Narok, which wind through the region giving life to frequently very dry areas. The environment includes open grasslands, acacia bushland, basalt hills, cedar forests and kopjes. The area is extremely scenic with the escarpment giving way to dramatic wooded gorges and tangled riverine thickets. It has been made famous by Kuki Gallman who wrote ‘I Dreamed of Africa’ about her life in this secluded part of Africa. It is an area unknown to package tourists because all the accommodation is on private land where you are treated more like a houseguest than a tourist.
Due to the diverse range of habitats, Laikipia hosts an abundance of wildlife, second only to the Masai Mara in Kenya. It has significant populations of predators and also the “big five”, with over 50% of Kenya’s Black and White Rhinos, thousands of elephants, about 25% of the world’s Grevy Zebras, and an increasing population of Wild Dogs
