Mombasa, Diani and South Coast

The region is mostly hot and humid throughout the year with temperatures ranging from 28°C to 33°C. The rainy months are between April and June.

• Carry light clothing, lots of t-shirts, shorts, swimwear, light dresses, sandals, a hat or cap, sunglasses and sunscreen. • Take mosquito repellent to apply at dawn and dusk where mosquitoes are most prevalent.

The food here is heavenly and fresh and if you like sea-food then this is your place. • Experience a day trip to Wasini Island, if you are lucky enough you may spot dolphins en-route and the crab lunch is unbeatable. • Visit the Shimba Hills National Reserve which is a small rainforest park home to hundreds of elephants, the endangered sable antelope and many bird species. • Diani Beach is a great water sports destination; kayaking, jet skiing, windsurfing, kite surfing, scuba diving and paddleboarding are available, whatever your skill level. • The Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest is the home of Digos who inhabit the area for a cultural tour of the Giriama way of life and traditions. • Visit Fort Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and this Portuguese relic was once a safe haven for different occupiers like the Portuguese, Omani Arabs and the British and is now a museum. • Visit the Mombasa Marine National Park for a boat ride and see the aquatic life and the coral reef. Glass-bottomed boats are highly recommended for the best viewing experience. • Book dinner on the Tamarind Dhow, one of the best experiences you can have in Mombasa. This stunning dhow has a bar and serves amazing seafood with a band serenading you until late at night. • Go cycling in the Butterfly Pavilion at Bamburi which features a couple of cycling trails, spanning up to 10km. Built like an Amazonian jungle, the thick forest offers much-needed shade from the scorching coastal sun. You’re likely to spot wild animals grazing or drinking from numerous scenic ponds. • Experience the Fort Jesus Sound and Light Show. Learn about Mombasa’s history through audio-visual experience with the iconic and 700 year old Fort Jesus as the backdrop.
